I am Kendi Miriti, a junior majoring in Computer Science. My commitment to creating inclusive and conducive spaces where diverse people thrive has informed my choice of leadership positions. Over the past year, I have led initiatives and organizations and served as the Academic Chair for the DKU House Council as well as co-founding the Association of African and Black Students. These experiences have influenced my leadership philosophy and grounded me in empathy, building connections, and empowering others. I am applying for a position as a board member to the SLB because I believe in young leadership to enact meaningful, relatable and measurable change. As a member of this board, I aim to focus on creating policies and programs that promote inclusivity, mental health awareness, and community engagement between both students and faculty. My vision includes fostering a campus culture where every student feels connected and supported, regardless of their race, religion, or sexual orientation. If selected, I would also like to work on formulating and enforcing transparent policies to address sensitive issues such as bullying, inappropriate behavior, or discrimination of any kind. By fostering open communication and creating processes that reflect accountability and mutual respect, we can create trust and a sense of belonging. I would also seek to implement initiatives that encourage collaboration between student organizations, amplifying their impact on creating harmonious campus life. My leadership experiences have taught me how to listen, to consider issues from different perspectives, and to consider the nuances in leading diverse groups. I also embrace leadership that accepts feedback and criticism, perspectives I am eager to bring to the Student Leaders Board. Thank you for considering my application.
