I am a freshman at Duke Kunshan University (DKU), whose choice to study here stemmed entirely from my admiration for the school’s commitment to diversity and its close-knit community. Since enrolling, I have been stunned by the vibrant mix of cultures on campus—from international student gatherings to interdisciplinary courses—and even more deeply moved by the community’s warmth. Seniors have gone out of their way to share academic planning tips and campus resource guides; professors have taken time after class to nurture my creative thinking through open discussions; and classmates from across the globe have invited me to join cultural sharing sessions, letting me truly grasp what “community” means—mutual support and belonging.
At DKU, I’ve gradually adapted to the campus rhythm, actively embraced multiculturalism, and stepped out of my comfort zone: I now initiate conversations with peers and participate in volunteer activities, changes that have filled me with unprecedented joy and satisfaction. Having benefited so much from this community, I am eager to give back—which is why I apply for the Student Leaders Board. If selected, I will serve as a reliable bridge between the school and students: I’ll collect peers’ feedback on campus life (like academic support needs) and relay it to the school, organize orientation events for new students, and promote more inclusive activities to strengthen DKU’s diversity, ensuring every student feels valued and at home.
