I am Minnie Hu, a junior student majoring in Environmental Science/ Public Policy. I enjoy playing tennis, hiking, playing the guitar, traveling and cooking. I’ve been to over 30 countries in 5 continents, and exchange programs in US, UK, and Russia. As a global citizen, I love to explore diverse culture and policy and incorporate into my life.
Since high school, I’ve always been passionate about making policy solutions to issues and I practice by participating in MUN and public forum debate. After receiving systematic education and engaging in leadership jobs like Resident Assistant and Kunshan Student Orientation Leader, I regard myself a change maker and student leader. If I were selected, I would mainly work on three fields to enhance students’ experience in DKU. First of all, injecting Duke spirits to DKU. Since it’s too late to engage with Duke in junior year, I want to pre-build connections for freshman and sophomores with Duke by introducing resources like KSAC. The tailgate activities before sport games unite students in Duke, which I want to bring into DKU. Besides, I want to promote SLG (Selective Living Group) that brings people with same interest together. This is based on my observation that clubs are too limited to a certain interest, while SLG can be more inclusive and casual for socializing. Additionally, the lawn sports is a great way to make campus alive, which I would promote like spike ball and volleyball as routine in our beautiful lawn. Last but not the least, enhancing the communication between Chinese and international students is of great importance. I would try to advocate more coffee chat opportunities for students to interact with different cultural background. In general, I would utilize my experience, knowledge and resources to help build a more inclusive, lively and united campus.
