Class of 2029

I hope to commit to the advertisement of abundant resources at DKU and making the invisible visible.

I am Yutao Wu, a freshman from Jiangsu Province. Before my admission, I always heard about the abundance of resources at DKU and was attracted by them. So far, I have taken advantage of my first session, which only had 8 credits, to authentically experience many kinds of diverse resources. For example, I got to know the chair of DNAS by DNAS Seminars, and Officer Cheng of Career Services got to know me by an office’s workshop series.
Moreover, I am willing to embrace the awkward and courageously try new things. For instance, after seeing a poster about our university’s IRoNman Lab recruiting research investigator, I approached the office of career services and began to write my CV. Finally, to my surprise, I was selected and became the only first-year student among the researchers.
However, when I enthusiastically participated in these activities and enjoyed the resources with curiosity and courage, I always found that there are not so many other participants, which prevents the full utilization of resources. In my opinion, this phenomenon can be caused if our students do not really know what a kind of resources is specifically about, or they are not strongly motivated. Therefore, I apply for the Student Leaders Board to contribute my own effort to solve the problem. Furthermore, although I had not had any outstanding leadership experiences before attending DKU, I have made some attempts these days by leading others to deliver group presentations in class.
If I am selected, I want to work on further introducing DKU resources to my fellow schoolmates, motivating them to participate as well as identifying their needs and concerns for specific resources. I believe it will provide insights for campus decision-makers and promote the overall welfare and experience of student peers and the DKU community.
