Class of 2029

A global citizen who believes small actions can make a big difference.

I imitate water. Fluid yet strong, continuously changing and adapting. I will find a way through the cracks, not by force but by flowing. I do not oppose issues rigidly, I accept the nature of things and try to bend them, with them. New environments shape me and I adapt, as I have done at DKU.
“You do not owe anybody anything,” is a saying I never agreed with. One for all, all for one aligns with me more. I have received so much from the DKU community, that I now wish to contribute to the bright future of this school. I believe everyone ought to give to the community they are part of.
By interacting with both Chinese and international students, I noticed a gap that still exists within the two groups, despite the efforts. Many international students express their wish for Chinese friends, while some of my Chinese friends tell me, “I’m so happy I got my first International friend!” Both sides expressed the same interest, yet there still stands a barrier only few manage to cross. If I am selected, I will dedicate myself to becoming the bridge.
From my experience, collaboration outside the classroom builds stronger and long-lasting friendships. I plan to organize activities and advocate for cross-cultural communication that fosters deeper connections. For example, I envision grouping incoming freshmen into diverse groups to explore Shanghai or Suzhou during orientation week. By navigating tasks and solving problems, students can form genuine bonds that inspire others to cross the gap as well.
