My name is Lauren Mass, I am a first-year student here at Duke Kunshan University. However, I am also a daughter, learning three languages, a martial arts practitioner, a life-long learner, a fun-lover, and a person dedicated to the improvement of our world and our society. “There are many stories out there that I think need to be told” is a quote by one of my favorite actresses and biggest inspirations Anna Sawai. This quote best exudes why I want to work on the Student Leaders Board for Duke Kunshan this year. We have over five hundred students in the freshman class alone, not to mention those from other undergraduate classes, graduate students, as well as professors. Our community here at Duke Kunshan is huge yet so unique. I believe every single person here has their own distinct perspective and experiences that have shaped them into who they are and what they value. On the Student Leaders Board, I want to ensure as many students as possible have a voice and a platform where they can share their thoughts on what we can do to improve our community. Because, after all, the betterment of our campus and and DKU society is the objective all of us should be striving to achieve, regardless of whether you are on the Student Leaders Board or not. On the student leaders board, I hope to act as a mediator between the students and administration of DKU in order to ensure that student’s voices are heard. Many people don’t speak up because they don’t think they will be heard. I want to reassure students that not only their voice is heard but that it matters.
