My name is Haroon Nadeem and I’m a freshman at Duke Kunshan University. My key traits include curiosity, creativity and a desire to make a meaningful connection between people and ideas. I see leadership not as a matter of having a title but the ability to listen, gain trust and turn ideas into action.
I wanted to join the Student Leader Board as I see it as a bridge between students and the institution. A place where voices can lead to a real change. I want to be part of the process which helps strengthen communication, build trust and create an environment where every student truly believes they belong.
If chosen, my main focus will be on three objectives. The first one is to improve the involvement of the students by creating more areas or platforms where everybody feels listened to and a part of the process through digital feedback systems or open forums. The second one is to raise the level of communication between students and the administration, thus making it easier to understand the needs of students and to come up with the corresponding solutions. The third one is to initiate the process of innovation and inclusivity, thus giving students from any discipline the opportunity to show their talents and take the lead in those projects that aim at making campus life better.
During my time at DKU, I have been shaped to listen with great attention, use my critical thinking skills, and when necessary, change my ways with a clear intention. One of my realizations is that real leadership is not showing off, but rather helping and encouraging others and, together, through common values, making a difference in the world. I believe that is the way I can be of help to the DKU community.
For me the student leader board is an opportunity to contribute meaningfully, grow alongside passionate peers and help to shape DKU into a more forward thinking and connected university.
