”Be the change that you wish to see in the world.“

My name is Zhilan Zhao, and I am a student who believes in the power of empathy, collaboration, and curiosity to create meaningful change. Guided by the idea to “be the change you wish to see in the world,” I see leadership not as authority, but as a responsibility to listen, understand, and act with purpose.

Throughout my experiences in student leadership, community service, and academic research, I’ve learned that positive change begins with connection. Whether coordinating student initiatives, supporting local volunteer work, or engaging in discussions about global issues, I strive to bring people together around shared goals and values. These experiences have strengthened my belief that inclusive dialogue and collective effort can turn ideas into real impact.

I am applying for the Student Leaders Board because I want to contribute to building a more connected and supportive campus community. I hope to amplify student voices, promote sustainable initiatives, and create spaces where collaboration and understanding thrive. If selected, I aim to continue learning from others while helping our community grow stronger together—one conversation, one action, and one change at a time.
