The Duke Kunshan Student Leaders Board (SLB) is a body of student leaders, endorsed by peers and appointed by the University, to represent and serve student interests and needs in collaboration and consultation with the University leadership. Members of the SLB identify students’ needs and concerns, provide insights for campus decision-makers, create or co-create initiatives and programs, and engage in constructive and collaborative dialogue to promote the overall welfare and experience of student peers and the DKU community.

How to join the Student Leaders Board?

A. Board members (Term: January - December, Annual)

Board members are the voting members of the Board. Board members will join one of the 3 committees: 

  • University and External Affairs Committee
  • Student Advocacy Committee
  • Intercultural Engagement, Diversity and Inclusion Committee

Board members are selected through the Fall Selection Cycle, which starts on Nov 4 this year. 

B. Co-Chairs (Term: January-December, Annual)

Co-Chairs are the executive student leaders who shape and guide the board in its direction. To represent the diversity of student population, Co-Chairs must consist of 1 Chinese student and 1 international student, and apply as co-chairs as a paired leadership team.

Co-Chairs are selected in pairs through the Fall Selection Cycle, which starts on Nov 4 this year. You should have selected your Co-Chair partner before application. Paired applicants who are not ultimately selected as co-chairs may still be individually appointed as board members.

C. Cabinet Officers (Term: May-April, Annual)

Cabinet Officers lead functional tasks of  the Board, which include: 

  • Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
  • Chief Legal Officer (CLO)
  • Chief Communication Officer (CCO)
  • Chief Sustainability Officer (CSO)
  • Graduate Student Representative (GSR)

All cabinet officer positions (except for the Graduate Student Representative) open their applications in late spring and start their term in the Fall. The Graduate Student Representative position opens at the beginning of each semester. 

The cabinet officer positions will be selected by the Board.

D. Fellows (Open Applications on Demand)

The Fellowship program is designed to provide an opportunity for students who are interested in the Board to learn and accumulate experience. Three standing committees will recruit and select their fellows after they are formed..

Fellow applications usually open at the beginning of each semester.

Why Join the Student Leaders Board?

The Student Leaders Board is designed to be a premier leadership opportunity on campus. Members of the Board will have direct connection with the campus administration and be empowered to share their voices and insights on behalf of the fellow students. The Student Leaders Board is formally chartered by the University and will have its own office space on campus. 

The Student Leaders Board will also be developed through exclusive leadership training and gain valuable opportunities and experience in leading campus projects and initiatives. 

Student Leaders Board members will form a unique network of change-makers who are passionate about making positive impact in the DKU community and representing the highest ideals of the University.
