2026 DKU Awards Nomination Start

Office of Academic Services Animating Principle Awards

We recognize recipients of the Animating Principles Senior Awards, each of which honors a senior who embodies one of the seven animating principles that are expressed throughout the curriculum and constitute its overarching goals.

Nominations for AY2526 are being collected from March 9 (Monday, China time) to March 29 (Sunday, China time) at this link.

To cultivate informed and engaged citizens who are knowledgeable about each other’s histories, traditions of thought and affiliations; and skilled in navigating among local, national, and global identities and commitments.

To instill the habits of collaboration and the ability to synthesize disparate insights in solving complex challenges.

To enhance the ability to forge links between theory and practice in the many-sided and rapidly changing world of human need.

To develop the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and to listen attentively to different viewpoints in coming to mature judgments.

To nurture free inquiry, deep reflection, and a drive to ask interesting questions and find compelling answers.

To shape thinkers and doers who possess the moral compass to guide communities and institutions toward a common good and who have the wisdom and technical competence to deal effectively with complexity.

To form reflective scholars who test their core beliefs, connect their course of study to big questions of meaning, and who build the capacity for lifelong learning and exploration.

Office of Student Experience Community Awards

Student Experience annually recognizes students and staff members who have impacted the DKU community for the academic year and embodied the Student Experience values. There will be Community Awards to be awarded to individual students, student clubs/orgs, and staff members. Listed below are the awards.

The Community Service Award is for an individual student who have contributed to the DKU community and/or greater communities grounded in the values of Student Experience. The nominee will have demonstrated extraordinary leadership and service to others through character, collaboration, and citizenship in their curricular and co-curricular endeavors.

The Diversity & Inclusion award is given to an individual student or a student organization who has created a space for cultural competence, respect, and commitment to building a socially just community within DKU.

The Emerging Student Leader award recognizes a first year or sophomore student who has demonstrated exceptional leadership and involvement in their communities. They have shown exemplary personal growth and willingness to learn from the unknown. Nominees will have contributed to a student organization(s) or other leadership opportunities from campus.

The Event/Program of the Year award recognizes an individual student or a group of students who has hosted a creative event/program for the current academic year. This event/program has helped connect and foster the DKU community and made a positive impact on not only those who participated but those who helped plan, organize, and implement the event/program.

The Health & Wellness Award is presented to an individual student or student organization that best demonstrates leadership in promoting and contributing to a healthy campus. The recipient of this award is a role model for health and wellness both in practice and by impacting others to lead a healthy lifestyle. This impact may be evidenced through peer-to-peer education, volunteering, service learning, global outreach or any activity that enhances quality of life and development.

The Student Experience Staff Member of the Year award is for an individual staff member in the Office of Student Experience that has made an impact in the lives of students and other staff and faculty members. This staff member has contributed to the DKU community through their creativity, innovation, support, and commitment.

The Student Leader of the Year award recognizes an individual undergraduate student who has made a significant impact in the DKU community. Nominees are dedicated to creating change and positively impacting the DKU community through collaboration, acting as a role model, and overall commitment.

This award is given to an academic club that stands out for its exceptional contributions to its members’ educational and professional development. The winning club actively engages students in academic pursuits relevant to their field of study or career interests. The club would typically offer resources like tutoring, workshops, guest speaker events, career networking opportunities, and other initiatives to enhance students’ academic and professional growth.   Only clubs/orgs with Active status and registered as an Academic club/org with Campus Engagement are eligible.

This award recognises a student club or organization that has made a significant impact through community service. The club honoured with this award has effectively connected students with meaningful volunteer work in local, regional, or national communities. This club is likely to have organized or participated in various service projects or events that have helped address specific social issues or promoted the spirit of volunteerism among the student body.  Self-nominations are only accepted by the Advisor on file with Campus Engagement.  Only clubs/orgs with Active status and registered as a Community Service club/org with Campus Engagement are eligible.

The recipient of this award is a club or organization dedicated to fostering the appreciation of the arts and cultural diversity on campus. Such a club would offer opportunities for students to engage in artistic activities like music, dance, theatre, or visual arts. It may also host cultural events that celebrate and educate others about different cultural heritages. The awarded club may be recognized for its efforts to provide an inclusive environment where the richness of different cultures is shared and respected. Only clubs/orgs with Active status and registered as an Arts & Culture club/org with Campus Engagement are eligible.

This award is given to a club or organization that caters to a wide range of interests, helping to enrich the campus experience for students by providing them with opportunities to explore and engage in various activities. The winning general interest club may not necessarily focus on a single theme or subject but instead offers an array of events and experiences that appeal to a broad spectrum of students, facilitating social interaction, learning, and fun across diverse topics and hobbies.  Self-nominations are only accepted by the Advisor on file with Campus Engagement.  Only clubs/orgs with Active status and registered as a General Interest club/org with Campus Engagement are eligible.

This award is given to a club or organization with active status and registered as a cultural club/organization with the Office of Campus Engagement that promotes cultural awareness, appreciation, and exchange within the DKU community. Cultural clubs help enrich the campus experience by creating opportunities for students to explore diverse traditions, identities, histories, and perspectives through programming and engagement.

The winning cultural club demonstrates a strong commitment to celebrating and sharing culture while fostering inclusivity, intercultural dialogue, and community connection. These organizations may focus on representing a specific culture or multiple cultural identities while offering events, educational programming, and experiences that encourage learning, collaboration, and cross-cultural understanding among students.

This award recognizes a varsity team or sport club that has made an exceptional and holistic contribution to the DKU and broader community, extending beyond competitive performance to embody the core values of Office of Student Experience. The recipient exemplifies how athletic pursuit, when integrated with purpose, fosters engagement, builds inclusive community, develops student capacity, and enhances the overall student experience.
