Residence Life (学生住宿生活部) is a department within the Office of Student Experience and reports to the Dean of Student Experience. We are responsible for the community and student experience aspects of living on campus.
Residence Life oversees the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) team, Resident Assistant (RA) teams, Learning Community Research Assistant (LCRA) team, and Graduate Resident Fellow (GRF) team. We also support residential communities through community events and programs, residential student conduct, and the room application, assignment, and billing processes.

Our mission is to create opportunities to live, learn, and lead. Committed to creating these opportunities, Residence Life works collaboratively with students, parents, faculty, and staff to help residents navigate their DKU residential journey in a safe, diverse, inclusive, stimulating, and vibrant community. Along the way, we challenge and support residents to develop their potential, achieve their goals, and prepare for global citizenry.

Creating Opportunities to Live
We guarantee room accommodations for all undergraduate students and we are able to accommodate most graduate students who apply for a room. We work closing with the DKU Housing department, who keeps the buildings safe, clean, and maintained. Aside from the physical place to sleep, our close-knit communities give students a place to simply and truly enjoy life by having fun with friends as they develop a sense of belonging. Resident Assistants hold events which help students get to know each other and build a sense of belong while also serving in a duty rotation which keeps the building safe and secure.
Creating Opportunities to Learn
We’ve designed out residence halls with learning in mind. Our facilities all have study space within them and many of our procedures, events, and intentional interactions are focused on learning. To promote diversity and inclusion, we assign first-year students from different countries together in the same room. While this may invite challenges, our team is trained to support students and their learning through mediations. Various student worker positions such as Resident Assistants and Learning Community Assistants collaborate with faculty for educational programs, to extend learning beyond the classroom. Most of our undergraduate residential courtyards have a Faculty-in-Residence, which is a faculty member who lives in the residence hall and promotes intellectual curiosity through one of our interest-based Living Learning Communities. Residence Life also helps students learn about the consequences and impact of their actions through student conduct adjudications.
Creating Opportunities to Lead
We encourage students’ active participation in, and ownership for, their experience. Our office employs students in multiple positions which allow them to impact and influence their experience and the experience of others living on campus. We also encourage residents to share their event and community development ideas with other residents and their Resident Assistants to enhance everyone’s experience. Lastly, our office is very involved in the implementation of the Global Leadership Academy.

Although Residence Life and Housing work closely together, they are responsible for different aspects of the residential experience.
Residence Life is part of the Office of Student Experience and focuses on the community and student experience in our residential communities. Residence Life oversees the Residence Life Coordinator (RLC) and Resident Assistant (RA) teams, community building, residential events and programs, student conduct, and the room application and assignment processes.
Housing is part of Operations and focuses on the facilities and physical aspects of living on campus. Housing oversees housekeeping, maintenance, work requests, room inspections, indoor air quality, water quality, and rental refrigerator coordination.

Mercury is the system used to manage on campus room applications, assignments, and bills. It also includes other important forms such as updating personal information, requesting a rental refrigerator, and reporting maintenance issues. To access Mercury, go to https://student.rms.dukekunshan.edu.cn/page/homepage, then log in with your NetID.
All undergraduate students are required to live on campus all four years. On campus includes main campus as well as any buildings offsite that are owned, leased, or operated by the University. Graduate students are encouraged but not required to reside on campus. Limited spaces prevents us from guaranteeing graduate students a room. Graduate students intending to live off campus should still complete the room assignment application, to answer the question about their decision to live on or off campus.
Yes. Students who need a residential accommodation due to a documented disability or medical condition should submit an accommodation request to the Student Accessibility Services Office (SASO) by the deadline established for the room assignment process. SASO will review the request and, if approved, provide a recommendation to Residence Life.
Residence Life will work to accommodate SASO-approved requests based on room availability. Please note that an approved accommodation does not guarantee immediate availability of a specific room type.

If you lose your DKUID, report the loss as soon as possible through the “Report Maintenance Issues” form in Mercury and select the appropriate request type for a lost student ID card.
Because your DKUID is also used to access your residence hall and room, reporting a lost card promptly helps protect your access and account security. Follow the instructions provided by Campus Services for obtaining your replacement card.
It depends on the voltage and plug type your device uses. In China, standard electrical outlets provide 220V and commonly support Type A, C, and I plugs.
There are many shopping options available both on and around campus. FamilyMart, located in the Community Center, is open daily and is a convenient place to buy snacks, drinks, toiletries, and other everyday essentials. A separate counter inside FamilyMart also sells DKU merchandise.
Dayu Bay is within walking distance of campus and features a variety of restaurants and shops. For destinations farther from campus, students can use the campus shuttle, Kunshan’s public bus system, or DiDi, a popular ride-hailing service in China.
For online shopping, Taobao is one of China’s largest e-commerce platforms and offers a wide variety of products with convenient delivery options, including delivery to campus.
If you have a room assignment with Residence Life during a break or university closure, you may leave your belongings in your room.
If you do not have a room assignment during a break, such as during summer break or while studying abroad, you must remove all of your belongings from your room. On-campus storage is not available. Residence Life is working to develop a partnership with an off-campus storage provider and will share information with students when this option becomes available.
No. There is no specific time by which you need to return to your residence hall or bedroom.
