I like to think of myself as a builder, a dreamer, and a storyteller. I see the world as a network of untapped connections—between people, ideas, and possibilities. My journey weaves together not only different skills and ideas but different people and their respective thoughts and beliefs. I come from Errachidia, a small but vibrant city in Morocco, where the desert landscape taught me resilience and the value of community. Growing up, I found inspiration in the arts, from music to storytelling, and in the sciences, particularly biology and neuroscience. My passion for football has shaped my discipline and teamwork, while my curiosity drives me to explore and learn new things wherever life takes me. Why the Student Leaders Board? Because I believe in the strength of unity and the magic of transformation. I envision a campus where every student feels they belong, where their voices harmonize to create something extraordinary. If selected, I aim to craft programs that spark curiosity, elevate mental well-being, and celebrate the diverse threads of our community. My experiences as a Resident Assistant, varsity athlete, and advocate for innovation have taught me that great leadership is not about directing—it’s always about connecting, and I am fascinated by how we can shape ourselves and those around us through understanding, connection, and purposeful action. For me, this is more than an application; it’s a promise. A promise to inspire, to grow, and to build a legacy that resonates far beyond the present.
My name is Qirui Sun, a sophomore at Duke Kunshan University (DKU) with a passion for fostering inclusive and supportive communities. As a former high school class president and a national leadership award recipient, I developed skills in managing diverse groups and promoting positive environments. At DKU, I’ve actively pursued leadership opportunities, including leading a team in the Zhangjiagang half marathon as part of the running club and teaching English to local doctors through the EMP program. These experiences have strengthened my cross-cultural communication and problem-solving abilities. I am applying for the Student Leaders Board to contribute to creating a harmonious and inclusive campus environment. I am especially motivated to apply for the Co-Chair role, in collaboration with my chosen partner, as I believe strong and diverse leadership is essential for addressing the needs of DKU’s internationalized community. I want to strengthen communication between students and the administration. By gathering and relaying student feedback effectively, I can help improve university management and enhance the overall campus experience. My experience in assisting peers with challenges, such as navigating emergency procedures and resolving personal issues, has prepared me to act as a reliable and empathetic mediator. As a Co-Chair, I am committed to building a vibrant and interconnected campus ecosystem, bridging cultural groups and interests. Each activity I lead or initiative I propose adds another beam to the structure of mutual respect and understanding. Simultaneously, I resonate with the pulse of campus life, deeply understanding the joys, challenges, and needs of students. With this insight, I strive to amplify students’ concerns and help the administration craft truly impactful policies or solutions. Through these efforts, I aim to create a more harmonious, inclusive, and supportive campus environment.
