I’m Ziting Jiang from Class of 2027. I like calligraphy, Chinese painting, and music. I am also deeply committed to public service, as I believe in the transformative power of human connection. My hope is to contribute to building a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive community—both at DKU and beyond. As a young and innovative institution, DKU presents incredible opportunities for growth and development, and I aspire to be a changemaker in this ongoing journey. Joining the SLB would allow me to gain deeper insights into DKU’s organizational structure and operational mechanisms while sharpening my leadership skills. My previous experiences have prepared me for this role: serving as a Youth League Branch Secretary, where I facilitated effective cooperation between Chinese students; representing the Class of 2027 on the Intercultural Engagement Committee, which helped me understand how to create bridges between diverse groups; and assisting in the CE Department, where I worked to foster a more connected and inclusive environment for both Chinese and international students. These experiences have provided me with a solid foundation for understanding DKU’s ecosystem and how to advocate for its diverse student body. If selected, I see myself as a bridge between students and faculty, working to harmonize student needs and administrative priorities. My goals include enhancing Intercultural communication by fostering meaningful dialogue and collaboration, addressing challenges arising from cultural misunderstandings, and creating a “third space” for mutual understanding, perspective-shifting, and renegotiated identities. Additionally, I aim to amplify student voices and oversee administrative processes, addressing concerns such as improving efficiency in administrative services, advocating for more sustainable campus operations, and establishing clearer pathways for resolving issues like stolen deliveries. Through close collaboration with my co-chair partner Anna, I am committed to ensuring that every voice within our community is heard and celebrated—beautifully united in diversity.
The town where I grew up has a gas station/grocery store, two restaurants, and a post office. It’s a village with a big-city-worth of creative and intercultural opportunities. I’ve studied the arts like music, theater, and arts like calligraphy and pottery which inspire artistic improvisation in my activities. I also helped my community, as a tutor, through club activities, helping the homeless with food drives, and clothing drives, and teaming up with my peers. This exposure taught me the processes of making a social impact in my community no matter the audience. This sparked the motivation for me to go abroad for university. Abroad, I’ve realized that great improvements happen when cultural immersion and problem-solving work together. I’m interested in being a co-chair for the Student Leadership Board because I want to add my voice to the many strengthening DKU’s group vision. Through the many clubs and projects I’ve already done at DKU, I’ve developed many skills which could be applied to my role as a fellow co chair. I’ve worked through the stages of event-making through leadership in Running Club, Sustainable DKU and Ceramics Club, and Sustainability projects like the Millennium Fellowship Network and the Future 17 SDGs Challenge with patience, listening, and communication locally, and internationally. DKU has a diverse community of students, staff and faculty. Connections between all the communities and cultures of people on campus is vital to DKU’s culture. DKU core classes, working environments for students and faculty, and many clubs have brought students closer together no matter their background. But more attention could be put into hearing more from Wuhan University as DKU’s partner school, DKU’s Arts & Music Department, and student voices in general.
