"Alone, we can do so little; together we can do so much". - Hellen Keller

I am a native resident of North Carolina, and I am happy to be entering my third year here at Duke Kunshan University. My major is political economy with a track in political science. At Duke Kunshan University, I have seen the impressive amount of community engagement from our incredible residence assistants and club leaders. These opportunities have developed within me an enthusiastic interest in community affairs and community engagement. I feel that with a new university, a crucial step to take is to spread awareness for these events and make them as positive as possible for everyone involved. The more people at Duke Kunshan enjoy being here, the more that positivity will spread to potential applicants – and our school will no doubt continue to grow as a result. One central aspect that I want to have the opportunity to work on here at Duke Kunshan is growing and advocating for our writing and language studio and other mentoring opportunities. What I have seen at Duke University and other American universities is the considerable number of resources students must go to for their academic endeavors. Duke Kunshan should strive to match this standard for our students, and by doing so will see an increase across grades and student engagement. In a larger sense, I want Duke Kunshan to feel more friendly to people from all over the world. Students set foot on DKU without having ever left their home country; I want students to know that they are never alone and there is a relaxing, peaceful environment set up to address their social needs. By making our community a happy one, we can turn the next page in DKU’s history, leaving ample space for students of future classes to write their own.
