My name is Linh, and I’m a Computer Science major at Duke Kunshan University. My academic background combines technical skills with creative problem-solving, which I’ve applied in various leadership roles. I serve as Vice President and Treasurer of the DKU House Council at Duke, where I initiate projects to foster belonging and strengthen the connections between the DKU and Duke communities. Additionally, as an Event Coordinator for the Campus Activities Board, I organized events that brought together diverse groups of students, helping them feel welcome and engaged on campus. I am applying for the Student Leaders Board because I am passionate about promoting inclusivity and cultural understanding. Having lived and worked in multiple countries, I’ve experienced firsthand how different perspectives can enrich a community. I believe the Intercultural Engagement, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee is the perfect platform for me to leverage this experience to create an environment where every student feels valued and heard. If selected, I would want to work on initiatives that celebrate our diverse backgrounds, facilitate cross-cultural dialogues, and address any challenges related to inclusivity. Specifically, I’d like to organize intercultural dialogues and storytelling events where students can share their cultural experiences and traditions in a safe, inclusive space. For example, I envision creating a “Cultural Exchange Week,” where each day is dedicated to celebrating a different region through workshops, food tastings, dance performances, and panel discussions. Additionally, I aim to develop a mentorship program connecting international students with local peers to help them navigate cultural differences, adjust to campus life, and build strong support networks. By implementing these initiatives, I hope to bridge cultural gaps, foster meaningful connections, and empower underrepresented voices on our campus.
